At Maersk Training, we pride ourselves on being adaptable, responsive, and delivering high-quality training under any circumstances. Recently, we demonstrated these qualities during an urgent request from SSE for GWO Enhanced First Aid training.
It started on a Friday morning when SSE approached us with a critical need: a short weather window to upskill their offshore teams on two vessels in Hartlepool. They required training for 24 personnel, with four instructors and a complete mobilisation of first aid resources. The challenge? They needed it delivered the very next day.
For many, this might seem impossible, but for Maersk Training, it was a challenge we were ready to meet. Within hours, our team coordinated logistics, mobilised instructors, and prepared all necessary materials. By Saturday morning, training was underway, equipping offshore personnel with vital skills.
Flexibility in Action
What made this situation unique was its dynamic nature. Weather delays had halted offshore activities, and SSE saw an opportunity to invest in their workforce. We partnered with them to make it happen.
Just days later, SSE returned with another request for additional training. Once again, we adjusted schedules and redeployed resources to meet their needs. In two weeks, we successfully trained 42 delegates through the GWO Enhanced First Aid programme – exceeding expectations and earning excellent feedback.
A Word from SSE
Mark Rayne, Doggerbank Project SHW Manager, shared his thoughts:
“Offshore renewable construction projects can often be very fluid and dynamic in nature with activities occurring 24/7. Therefore, when weather down time does occur it’s essential that we utilise this time to the best of our ability, which normally means first aid training as well as inspection and familiarisation of emergency equipment. During a storm period we had a reasonably reliable forecast that identified the next 3 to 7 days would be unworkable offshore. We contacted Maersk Training on a Friday morning to enquire about the possibility of GWO enhanced first aid training being delivered onboard several of our vessels. The quick and professional response from Maersk Training resulted in four trainers mobilising to two vessels the following day to deliver training to 24 offshore personnel. Over the next 8 days Maersk Training was able to deliver GWO enhanced training onboard our vessels while in port to over 42 project personnel. I was hoping we may achieve coverage of 12 to 18 personnel, but the number of people trained at such short notice on board vessels was incredible. The training was also delivered to a very high standard and all participants provided very positive feedback. Maersk Training really do go that extra mile for their customers.”
This collaboration underscores Maersk Training’s ability to deliver under pressure, reinforcing our commitment to providing flexible, high-quality training that supports the ever-evolving needs of our customers.
